Outdoor Game Uniforms: 2022

With the return of two of the biggest events of the NHL season, what can we expect each team to look like?

After a year off due to the global pandemic, the Winter Classic will make it's return in January of 2022! This time, we will see the Wild host the Blues in Minnesota.

Typically, Winter Classics come with throwback or fauxback jerseys, as well as a Winter Classic logo. This trend should continue in 2022. We may also see new retro-style logos for both teams.

St. Louis Blues

Per Icethetics, it is expected that the Blues will use a "Vintage White" version of their current light blue alternate. That alternate jersey is loved by many Blues fans, and even fans of other teams around the league. If the vintage white jersey does come to fruition, I personally would not be surprised if it becomes their primary away jersey. In that case, the alternate jersey would become their primary home jersey (but that is just speculation).

Minnesota Wild

Time for some more speculation! The Wild are a relatively new team, meaning that they would likely have to dive into the city's hockey history, rather than their own team's. This would give them a few options.

1. They can throwback to their original jersey.

2. They can make a Minnesota North Stars fauxback. One example could be a dark version of their 2020 Reverse Retro jersey.

3. They can even take inspiration from home-town teams that were never in the NHL. The Stars and Predators did this in the 2020 Winter Classic, and the Golden Knights did it for their Reverse Retro. One team they could take inspiration from is the WHA's Fighting Saints, who played in St. Paul between 1972 and 1976. That would definitely be the least likely option, but it would be interesting nonetheless.

Again, this portion is pure speculation.

Just like the Winter Classic, the Stadium Series will make it's return in 2022! This time, we will see the Hurricanes host the event, but the opponent has not been confirmed.

Typically, Stadium Series come with futuristic jerseys, as well as a Stadium Series logo. This trend should continue in 2022. We may also see new futuristic logos for both teams.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes could go so many ways for this jersey. They employ elements on their current jerseys that could go a long way in a futuristic jersey. They could easily do something creative with their ghosted shoulder yokes and patches from their third jersey. The same jersey also features heathered striping, which could look great under a larger spotlight. They can also utilize their classic hurricane warning flag pattern that has been featured in current and previous jerseys.

However, the Stadium Series is all about new designs, so odds are, they will do something completely unpredictable and outside the box.
